Oak Lodge Historic House Watch

Greetings:

I wanted to share with everyone the news that the historic Philip Oatfield house on Oatfield Road (incorrectly identified as the John Oatfield House) is scheduled to be either moved (if someone will step forward) or demolished. A sign went up this morning announcing that eventuality.

This house was constructed in 1903 by Phil Oatfield on property he was deeded (originally 100 acres) from his pioneer father Michael Oatfield. Unless someone comes forward to move it the house will be demolished. The house sits on property that can be subdivided into several lots. The property is designated as a Historic Landmark by Clackamas County.

I spoke with Linda Preisz and found out that the sign I saw posted this morning must be posted for 4 weeks with a notice in the newspaper, after which a hearing will be scheduled sometime in January.

Even if no one comes forward to move the house this would be the time for folks to attempt to arrange salvaging some of the architecture of this house – – – features that we simply won’t find anymore.

If you are interested in either saving this home, or salvaging some of it, I urge you to contact Linda Preisz at 503-742-4528 or emailing her at lindap@co.clackamas.or.us
