Dear Detectives:
Local history does not stop at the jurisdictional boundaries we think of today such as city limits or county lines. Those early settlers that came to the Oregon country walked, rowed, paddled, rode horseback, and later traveled by buggy and wagon – back and forth between Portland and Oregon City, and much further, to conduct their daily business. Relative to our perception of distance today it is remarkable how they did it, and how frequently they did it. Thus the stated focus of history of the Oak Lodge History Detectives blends with that of Milwaukie, Gladstone, Oregon City, Portland and other areas of the northwest. OLHD recognizes other organizations as our partners in researching and preserving our history.
